It’s a prevalent Myth that Google glass is independently connected to the Internet. However, Google glass has to be tethered with the phones to connect to Internet and thereby to unleash its potential. It works on the personal hot spot feature of the phone.
Initial Beta product has a restriction on the devices it can be tethered with (Android phone and a Glass companion app). However, there are confirmed rumors (If there is ever anything like that ;-))) that the glass will soon be device independent, and possibly even independent of Glass companion app (That’s how it should be). This will allow iPhone users to get turn-by-turn directions, which they can’t right now, when they are connected to iPhone over Blue tooth and Wi-Fi.
